Matcha is celebrated in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony (Chado), centered around the hospitality and preparation of serving this special tea. The flavorful bright green tea powder has taken the country by storm for its smooth, complex flavors of herbaceous grassiness and subtle sweetness. With a full palate and a silky finish, matcha provides the versatility to create exciting drinks, treats and desserts.
For a fun and easy matcha drink this summer, we have created this Matcha Bubble Tea recipe. To start off, you can use any type of milk or dairy substitute. Matcha LOVE®-Classic is our first choice, however for those who like their matcha a bolder taste, the Matcha LOVE®-Koicha would be perfect.
Matcha Bubble Tea
Ingredients – for 2 or 3 servings
6g matcha powder
75g large tapioca pearls
270g ice cubes
1. Cook the tapioca pearls in a large pot of boiling water. The cooking time will vary depending on the brand. Once the pearls are cooked, drain well and keep them in a bowl.
2. Shift the matcha powder into a pitcher.
3. Bring the milk to the boil and add in sugar and matcha powder. Stir until everything is dissolved. Taste to see if the sweetness is to your liking.
4. Pour milk mixture over pitcher with ice. Serve cold in a glass with the cooked tapioca pearls .
